| Liver Combo
SKU: 1 The liver is our largest internal organ; and it literally keeps us alive. The liver regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile, which helps carry away waste products from the liver. All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver. The liver processes this blood and breaks down the nutrients and drugs into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body. We have created our Liver Combo in order to protect and support the liver in the best natural way. The powerful blend consists of Milk Thistle (200 mg), Dandelion (200 mg), Licorice root (50 mg), Nettle Leaf (50 mg) and Schisandra (50 mg). Milk thistle also known as Holy thistle, Lady’s thistle, Marian thistle and Wild artichoke and with scientific name Silybum marianum is an important part of our Liver Combo. The active and liver-protecting part in Milk thistle is called silymarin. Silymarin which consists of a group of compounds called flavonolignands; helps restore liver cells damaged by alcohol and other toxic substances. Silymarin also keeps new liver cells from being destroyed, reduces inflammation (important for people with liver inflammation or hepatitis), and has effective antioxidant effects. Milk thistle is also useful in the prevention and/or treatment of various liver problems including viral hepatitis, fatty liver associated with long term alcohol use, and liver damage from drugs and industrial toxins. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is a common weed that grows widely throughout the northern hemisphere in pastures, meadows and lawns. The name dandelion means lion’s tooth and the plant is named for the jagged edges of its leaves that resemble teeth. Even though dandelion is considered a weed, its roots and tops are extremely valuable for medicinal purposes. Dandelion root contains a large number of nutritive salts that make it useful as an herbal remedy for a variety of conditions. The medicinal use of dandelion root dates back to tenth century Arabia, where it was used to treat liver conditions. Dandelion root stimulates bile secretion. The liver is the largest filter in the body. This self cleaning filter removes its debris by dumping it into the bile. The bile then flows into the intestinal tract and is eliminated in the stool. Therefore, the greater the bile flow, the greater the cleansing of the liver. The high choline content of the root is one ingredient which helps this tonifying effect. Dandelion root contains a bitter, milky juice that is thought to be capable of energizing the body. It also has properties that can detoxify the body and purify the blood. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a flavorful herb that has been used in food and medicinal remedies for thousands of years. Licorice root has been used in both Eastern and Western medicine to treat a variety of illnesses ranging from the common cold to liver disease. Licorice grows wild in some parts of Europe and Asia. Licorice roots are brown on the outside and yellow on the inside. Licorice both protects the liver and promotes healing in this vital organ. The herb's anti-inflammatory properties help calm hepatitis-associated liver inflammation. Licorice also fights the virus commonly responsible for hepatitis and supplies valuable antioxidant compounds that help maintain the overall health of the liver. Licorice helps the body clear viral infections, and helps the liver to clean itself. When processed into glycyrrhetinic acid, Licorice root has a powerful anti-viral and anti-inflammatory effect which works to slow the deterioration of the liver and alleviate symptoms commonly associated with hepatitis. Nettle leaf (Urtica dioica) is considered by many to be a pest, but the nettle has been used since ancient times as a source of food, fiber, and medicinal preparations. Nettle leaf is among the most valuable herbal remedies. Because of its many nutrients, stinging nettle is traditionally used as a spring tonic. It is a slow-acting nutritive herb that gently cleanses the body of metabolic wastes. It is one of the safest alternatives, especially in the treatment of chronic disorders that require long-term treatment. It has a gentle, stimulating effect on the lymphatic system, enhancing the excretion of wastes through the kidneys. Nettle leaf functions as a health-building tonic partly because of its impressive nutritional profile: It’s rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, carotenoids, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Because nettle has diuretic properties, it also increases urination and helps to flush the urinary tract of organisms that contribute to infections. Nettle leaf is an excellent cleanser and aids the liver in its functions. Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) is a woody vine native to eastern Asia. It winds around the trunks of trees, covering the branches. The white flowers produce small red berries. Traditionally, the berries are harvested in the fall, dried, and then ground to make the powdered medicinal herb. Schisandra, also known as wu-wei-wi and sometimes spelled with a “z” (Schizandra) has a long history of use in ancient Chinese medicine as an herb capable of promoting general well-being and enhancing vitality. From the fruit of schisandra, 7 active liver enzyme-lowering ingredients have been currently isolated. Schisandra fruit also contains various lignans, mainly schisandrins, which have been found to prevent liver damage, stimulate liver repair and preserve normal liver functioning. These properties appear to be related to the various anti-oxidant abilities of the schisandrins. Each bottle consists of 60 vegetarian capsules. The suggested use as a Dietary Supplement is one capsule two to three times daily Nepatica, Glendale, CA |
